The Brief
Deerlands Estate is a luxury wellness retreat and venue in the Surrey countryside. The brief was clear: start building an evergreen library of brand imagery — content that could be used across social media, their website, and marketing — and create assets their retreat guests could share.
Rather than commission a standalone brand shoot, the goal was to capture everything during a live retreat event. The challenge was making imagery that felt produced and intentional while working within the energy and unpredictability of a live day.
The Approach
Before anything else, we built a vision board together. The aesthetic brief was clear: moody, textural, warm but with depth. Dark enough to feel considered. Emotive enough to make someone stop scrolling.
Having that shared visual reference before the shoot is non-negotiable for me. Walking onto a set with a fully aligned creative direction means I'm not making decisions about feeling on the day — I'm executing a vision we've already agreed on.
I arrived at the estate before the event started. That pre-event window is some of the most valuable time: the venue is quiet, the light is clean, and there's space to gather the textures, architectural details, and still-life moments that become the evergreen backbone of a brand library. It also gave me time to get grounded in the space before the event kicked off.
The Day
The forecast had called for rain. Overcast conditions can flatten contrast and work against the shadow-rich aesthetic we'd planned. But the sun showed up — and with it, the warmth, depth, and directional light that does exactly what the vision board had asked for.
I work exclusively in luxury fitness and wellness, which means I bring a decade of experience to every shoot and an instinctive read of the space and the energy. I know which shots serve evergreen use and which serve event coverage, and I know how to gather both simultaneously without disrupting the experience for guests.
Post-production followed an aesthetic that I tend to lean into (an is the one the client was after): warm tones, rich texture, a darker and more moody edit.

The imagery is already in active use for promoting upcoming retreats, the venue itself, and the experience of being there. I'm obsessed with how this set came out!
What I'd tell any brand considering this approach:
Using a live event to build an evergreen brand library isn't always the right strategy. When you're shooting documentary-style, you give up control over lighting conditions, outfit choices, styling, and precise moments. For brands that need tight consistency across every asset, a dedicated brand shoot with full production control will usually deliver more reliably.
But for a venue-led wellness brand, where the experience is the product, shooting it live made complete sense. The energy of the day is part of what Deerlands is selling. Capturing it authentically, rather than recreating it, is what makes the imagery work.
We handle everything from single shoot days to full content libraries within fitness and wellness. If you have a project in mind, let's connect.
